Where a lead disappears after first contact and how to find out
A practical analysis of the points where initial interest stops progressing towards a commercial conversation.
In this article
In brief
When a prospect goes quiet after first contact, the website may not be the cause. The loss can happen in the reply, qualification, booking or because nobody owns the next step. Reconstruct the timeline before changing a form or campaign.
What is documented
Without a specific dataset, it is impossible to claim where a company's leads disappear. What can be documented is the sequence: contact submitted, delivery, first reply, booking, completed conversation and commercial outcome. Every event needs a time, an owner and an unambiguous definition.
This text is a method analysis. It is not a case study and does not present an anonymised result from one client.
What Vors observes
Vors's working hypothesis is that teams sometimes measure a website contact and the final CRM outcome but do not track the steps between them: delivery, first reply, booking and ownership. They then optimise form volume even though the problem may be a slow reply, unclear handoff or premature disqualification.
This is a working hypothesis that must be tested against a company's own evidence.
What follows
Vors draws a working method from this: one conversion rate is not enough. A small map of events and ownership can reveal waiting time, missing states and changes in the definition of a qualified lead.
What remains unclear
Events alone do not explain why a person chose not to continue. They may also miss a phone call, a reply outside CRM or a change in the customer's priorities. The quantitative view therefore needs a sample of real cases and a conversation with the people handling them.
Practical consequence
Select ten to twenty recent contacts and rebuild the same timeline for each. Only when the same gap repeats should you change the process, measurement or website.
